Probably a bit late on updating this but I thought I'd lost some photos of the end results. I think pretty much everything has changed since those original photos. The staircase has been painted white. It took a few coats of Zinsser BIN and a few coats of acrylic primer undercoat, with sanding between coats. Gaps between the labelling were caulked and I fitted some trim over the rough sloping section before the top coats. The stringer was completely stripped and then filled as best we can - due to lead paint fears we couldn't just rub it all down. All woodwork was finished with Little Greene intelligent eggshell in Loft White. The walls are Little Greene Intellgent Emulsion in Slaked Lime. It's a very warm white/neutral. It looked plain white when it was first painted but the white skirting transformed it. It also wipes very nicely. We had the walls replastered before painting. The tiled floor in the hallway was ripped out. We now have decent quality laminate throughout the hall and living room. Quick Step Soft Oak Natural. Carpet was fitted and supplied by the same person who did the laminate flooring, a very good local fitter. We only recently got the stairs and landing carpeted as we were waiting for our other refurbishment projects to be finished. Before it was carpeted we also had a local carpenter repair the stairs which were very creaky and the wonder treads very loose. The underside was removed so it could be properly repaired underneath. I took the stupid box catch off the door which didn't work properly and fitted a nice handle and magnetic catches. We have new engineered oak internal doors downstairs which I bought online. All it really needs now is some finishing touches like some photos or pictures on the wall of the stairwell. I'm very happy with the end result.

Hi again, I have tge decorator comings in october going strip my lounge and replaster then repainting my house fully. Treat to myself for my birthday. I have a small 3 bed semi and want to give it a more cohesive look I like Farrow and Ball Tunsgate green for main walls and Churlish green to pickout Feature walls. Want to create a calmer look with flow but not boring I love colour and not afraid to be bold but need a overal look rather than individual room themes. Only coloured carpet I have is rather lovely moss green stair runner that I have based my colour choice on other floors are lounge parquet gorgeous. Not so gorgeous terracotta tiled kitchen but had to stay for now and neutral oatmeal wool bedroom carpets. Love this black wallpaper with grey gold silver birch trees for behind my bed will it work???? New robes black gloss. Sons room red robes what do I do here without changing too much and little spare room no idea what to do. How do you use the two colours? Do you pick a feature wall in all of them don't want it look like a had a job lot of two paints but dont want it random. Open to other colour suggestions but grey lovers I find it a bit dull in my home south facing dark lounge and can live with greenish grey tones more just saying love greys on the pics of your homes but not here something wrong with my daylight lol mine looks drab and muddy in true grey. I am aware that this doesn’t tick every box but I hope this inspires you. In my opinion your current layout gives you maximum cabinet and worktop space to accommodate everything you want but you don’t like that layout as there is too much walking around. My alternative has a more compact working area. I note you wanted a sink with drainer- perhaps you could be persuaded with one big simple sink and two dishwashers and vow to never wash a pot again! I also thought that if the kitchen had insufficient space for all of the cookbooks they could go in the dining area which might help retain the clean lines of the handleless kitchen you have your eye on.

Having just finished our renovation, which sounds similar to yours with an added full "roof off" loft conversion ... imagine stairs becoming a waterfall feature, I kid you not ... I can say with experience that the dust (and wood shavings, rubble, mud, screws, nails, bits of wire ... and much much more) gets absolutely everywhere. Covering stuff will help, though the covers themselves will get filthy so it's practically impossible to keep things 100% clean. You don't say if you're going to be living in during the build, but we did throughout the majority of ours so some things were out all the time (TV, sofas, beds). Despite all of that, most of our stuff has emerged pretty much unscathed.
