Comments (8)Hi Paula, Our house was built in the late 20's so we had a similar issue. We replaced all the crittall windows with double glazing and took up all the floorboards, laid insulation between the joists and laid tongue and groove chipboard sheets as a new subfloor. We also fitted thermal insulation foil inside the roof joists. You need to make sure you have good ventilation throughout the house as by doing this you change the airflow and the dynamics of the property and it could lead to damp (It's been 5 years and we've not had a problem). For the walls of your property you can install insulated plasterboard but that may cause knock on issues with replacing skirting boards and architraves but it depends on what stage you're at with any build works. We didn't feel we needed to do this on the walls and it has been fine. The house is the warmest it's ever been and we reduced our fuel bills :) All the best Jason...See MoreBathroom Refurb - colour advice please!
Comments (6)Hi. It's hard to tell colours online but your tiles seem to have a green undertone, wonder if farrow and ball mouses back (1st pic) would work? I'd add a wooden bath mat, this one is available from Victorian plumbing. On the wall opposite the sink a towel holder with a hammam towel, this is from not on the high street and available in a few colours. Do you also have room for art on that wall? I'd add a potted plant at the end of the bath. If you have the space then 3 small dark wood shelves over the wc and mirror over the sink and add candles etc....See MoreNeed to refurb unsafe stairs... glass or these spindles shown on BBC2?
Comments (8)Just seen this post and as a glass company would like to offer some inspiration and advice with the current staircase as it is with the open threads I would be keen to recommend a stand off fixed balustrade with or without a handrail its really your decision, see the below photo of a job we did with stand offs fixings and a matching stainless steel handrail. If you were to reconfigure the stairs there are other options such as balustrade clamps or baserail fitting as per below photos. Hope this help, unsure of your location but if its within Bristol, bath or Gloucester give us a call. Thanks BFG....See MoreLara
