I should say that a 4 seater round dining table currently sits between the island and the front units next to the big windows

Do you have mesurements and do you actually use the peninsula whilst cooking or is it just for seating? What is in the short bank of units? Does the peninsula fit under the double windows?

I might be tempted to get rid of the peninsula and replace the table with a long rectangular one for entertaining.

Assuming the peninsula fits under the single window though you could repurpose that as storage only and still have a long table, just depends on dimensions, window height.

What about replacing the existing island unit with a long table? If theer's not enough space to fit a standard width table maybe a 60cm deep long island would be possible?

You could keep it open for counter stools or have a part of it with storage if you need it.

This set up would make much more sense in terms of actually using the space you've got and turn your kitchen into a more social space where people can hang out.

I like Jareks idea and additionally extend that back glass door (on the short wall) across the whole wall so that it can fold out onto a nice deck area for a nice indoor outdoor flow.

Alternatively if budget is limited, you could put another run of kitchen cupboards along the long wall and around under the back short wall under the window - this could have some seats to look out into the backyard. If the window opens it would be lovely in summer. Fill any dead areas with plants / kitchen herbs etc.
