Hello. Light marble look-a-like worktops are really on trend at the moment & look set to stay. I totally agree with @BagpussAntiques comments on dark glossy granite worktops however if you like them then go for it. Perhaps explore the different composite materials. Silestone & Caesarstone do some great ones which I highly recommend but if you are on a tighter budget Earthstone may be an option but tend to look more man made. Good luck! Best, CPI

We have the exact same layout and decided not to extend the living area. There already was a mudroom/utility extension. We did remove the reception-dining wall and chimneys, removed the kitchen-dining wall. Our fridge freezer and oven are in the mudroom. And I cut a rectangle out of the toilet-kitchen wall to make room for a small toilet washbasin, the hole is patched with plywood and tiled on the kitchen side. The desk is next to the dining table, only need to turn the chair around. NB we do have a small cellar where we store food, oven trays and such.

Hi Dave, What a lot of doors but not a problem. I would keep the walkway between the doors clear if you do decide to go for an island but there might not be space. I would put your tall storage on the long wall because this will be out of the way of people walking through to the garden. If you're able to make the hallway door slightly narrower to get the 600mm width on the currently 550mm door then thats fabulous, if not, you could go for a breakfront (set back the first cupboard then pull out out the centre ones) or go for a freestanding tall block. All depends on the look you're going for. Then I would put a seating area by the window and use the rest for prep space, sink and hob. Hi Emma Good to reach out and ask for advice. I can see why, you have a lot of entry/exit points. It reminds me of a kitchen we are planning with the same amount of entry/exit points. On this one im trying to avoid a 360 degree kitchen and limit the core kitchen area to 3 walls. This you have, but I suspect the two doors opposite each other are a major traffic way? Perhaps the wall that is not currently used could be utilised with your oven and fridge towers leaving full work surfaces to the other two kitchen sections. An island is a great move to add valuable prep space and a focal point to the room for engaging social chat. to avoid a major walkway through the core kitchen area, it would be worth exploring adding this onto the main kitchen area to promote traffic in a smaller area. Tall units always create shadows so best grouped together in a smaller combinations. Ovens at mid height work well, however for a holiday home this could be moved into an under counter position if it helps with light and work surface opportunities. Hope that helps and good luck.
