Bay of Islands Contemporary
A large, contemporary home in the Bay of Islands in a semi-rural environment. The home has been designed to make the most of the rural views with the local native flora informing many of the design features. This includes the bespoke white screen in the living area which was designed based on a brief to provide a view from the formal living area, across the galley hallway into the interior courtyard beyond. Taking reference from the surrounding landscape and modifying an idea seen elsewhere, the screen is cut from stainless steel and painted in Dulux Mt Aspiring. The clients entertain often for large numbers of guests, so the kitchen includes a butler pantry and bar area with a stone feature wall - sourced from Island Stone in Bay of Plenty. Copper has been used strategically in the kitchen to add interest and colour to a predominantly monochromatic colour scheme, with blocks of colour and texture used throughout to add further interest.
