Double height extension & renovation, North London

We were commissioned to design an extension to a family home which is elevated high above a generous garden.

The proposed building is a staggered two storey addition housing a double height space at the heart of the home, allowing the rooms to unfold either side, bringing light to deep into property.

External materials include large glazed elements, black engineering brick, slate tiles and black render which respond sympathetically to the local context, allowing for a modern interpretation of the local vernacular

The core part of the brief was to create a series of spaces in which the kitchen and dining room were connected with the lounge but the functions separated.
The kitchen diner flows seamlessly into the lounge via the double height space and down the stairs to the garden.

Diagonal views and routes through the building out to the garden landscape are a key feature of the renovated house.
