The side extension and renovation of this Victorian mid-terrace house has added space and light exactly where it was needed, evident even on a very grey and rainy December day in south London.

A bespoke kitchen made of birch veneered plywood is the centrepiece of the new space. Designed by MW Architects, and built entirely on site by the contractor, each cabinet is a non standard size so that everything fits exactly and no space is wasted. A secret door provides access to a hidden utility room.

Strict planning restrictions necessitated a clever approach to crank the extension roof line. This protects the amenity of the neighbour and results in creative glazing which brings light in and also deals with the change in level between the existing from reception rooms and the new space.
