The gardens surrounding this house in rural East Devon had been dominated by disjointed expanses of gravel and paving. The brief was to create a sense of flow around the site and to introduce a much softer feel with generous planting. Much of the existing limestone paving was lifted and re-used to create comfortable steps and intimate seating areas linked by sweeps of grass and naturalistic planting.
