Grade II Listed Refurbishment, extension and interior design- Sevenoaks
This project is the extensive refurbishment, reconfiguration and contemporary extension to a Grade II listed farmhouse and barn in Kent. The ground floor plan was strategically reconfigured to relocate the existing kitchen from within the main house to a new modern glazed extension. By reconfiguring the floor plan and adding this contemporary glazed extension, the property now provides the family with an arrangement suited to open plan living, while maximising views of the idyllic rural setting from the rooms they spend the most time in. The modern kitchen extension forms a link between the old farmhouse and the barn which was previously an isolated space and largely unused.
Through attention to detail, proportion and scale, we designed a sculptural form that complements and respects the character of the existing farmhouse and barn yet stands alone as a bold sculptural form in its own right.
Refurbishment of the existing house included renewal of all mechanical and electrical services as well as alterations to the layout in order to maximise natural light and rationalise the plan. The palette of materials and detailing creates a contemporary aesthetic that works alongside and complements the traditional character of the property.
