Historic Church Renovation
MarbleAir were instructed to renovate the interior of St Peter’s Church in December 2013. This is a Grade II * listed building, and has stood in the middle of Stoke Lyne, a village in North Oxfordshire, since Norman times.
At the time of MarbleAir’s instruction, St Peter’s Church did not lend itself very well for anything other than Christian Worship and, as such, was not realising its full potential as a community asset. Therefore, MarbleAir were asked by the PCC to redesign the interior of the church in order that it could provide a community resource as well as a place of worship, outreach and spirituality.
MarbleAir implemented a design to open up the space and improve flexibility in its use. Flexible seating within the church was introduced. The toilets and kitchen were refurbished. The meeting room was relocated to the Lady Chapel, and the Nave was refloored. Within each of these areas, lighting was revised to enhance the beauty of the architecture and historic fabric as well as to provide functionality. MarbleAir also ensured improved disabled access to the building and into the Church. Church also gained new heaters, all to making the space a welcoming hub for community and visitors.
MarbleAir adopted an approach to allow for the character, spirituality and history of the church to be retained, at the same time as ensuring functional yet tasteful and charming modernisation of the space. The project was completed to great accolade in September 2019. You can now hire the space for social events.
