Mt Victoria House, Wellington
“This piece of work crosses the divide between architecture and crafted joinery… It is a comfortable and well-loved addition to a family home”. New Zealand Institute of Architects Awards Jury, 2010.
Our client requested a modern, ‘apartment-feel’ interior while retaining the traditional villa exterior of their much-loved family home in the Wellington suburb of Mt Victoria. The home was adapted to reflect the owners’ contemporary lifestyle. The living areas were opened up, allowing natural light to flood in through new skylights, and a contemporary version of the traditional bay window was created. Full height double-glazed doors and windows link to a new outdoor deck are and wide steps added to lead down into the garden.
