Raynes Park Terraced Garden
Almost all of the garden is at the front of the house. Before there was a steeply sloping lawn with a few broken and uneven steps up to the front door. The garden was unusable for the young family living here.
We widened the terrace at the top of the garden to make a pleasant seating area with a good view of the south-facing garden.
The slope was terraced to provide a large lawn. The resultant banks were sown with wildflower seed, making a stunning display from the second summer and as it only needs mowing once a year it is easy to maintain.
A broad set of steps and path make access to the house much easier and create a lovely slow walk past deep flower beds with fruit trees which will eventually form an avenue.
The shadier parts of the garden were planted up to make a cool walkway around the garden, leading to a dining area at the edge of the lawn that gets the last of the sun.
The owners are keen on growing their own fruit and vegetables and space has been made for these in easily accessible pockets in sunny parts of the garden.
