Stansted Road, East London
Located in a Conservation area, the brief was to renovate this period property, which had been neglected and split into two flats, and to convert it to a beautiful new family home for the owners and their children.
We set out to design the conversion to maximise modern living in the new space while retaining the plethora of original period features. This complete house refurbishment included the creation of a new kitchen/diner, four bedrooms and the creation of a new bathroom (innovatively utilising an original stained glass feature), plus en suite to Master bedroom. A contemporary extension was added which related to the original building with rendered reveals to the windows.
Design Features:
• Pebble dash was removed to reveal beautiful original brickwork, a key component for attaining planning permission for the new extension, which incorporated this brick aesthetic
• A retained original stained glass window feature was incorporated into the shower design of the new bathroom
• Polished concrete flooring utilised across dining/kitchen area and out to the terrace accessed via sliding folding doors
• Multiple existing period details retained and enhanced, such as all skirting boards and coving, pin back doors to the lounge/dining/kitchen area, as well as stripping back and oiling the original floorboards of the original staircase
• Out of place aluminium windows replaced with sash windows, and the downstairs floor was replaced with a beautiful parquet wooden floor
Location Wanstead, London
