Traditional Property in Wales Modernised
This was a collaboration with the owner of the hostel Amy Searle. Bought as a totally run down Youth Hostel, she had all the vision for the space planning and overall conception while I helped with the colour schemes and product sourcing. Using her love of two Welsh woolen blankets as a starting poingt, I based my inspirations on the changing colours of lichen, and worked with a palette of Farrow & Ball, Little Greene and Dulux. I also designed and painted the bookcases in the library to her brief of “I don’t know, I just want it crazy”. It was overall a hard project, the budget was very tight, so the sourcing of warm colours and fabrics that were cheap but looked expensive was quite a challenge! Plas Curig has gone on to be a huge success as a business offering a welcome haven to weary travellers and quite rightly won its five stars from the tourist board.
