In this family-friendly kitchen, storage was carefully thought out by the team at Ian Dunn Woodwork & Design. A row of floor-to-ceiling cabinets has provided a space for food and utility items, and includes a slot for an ironing board, a drying rack and lots of hooks for hanging washing.
The washing machine and tumble dryer are stacked on top of each other behind closed doors. The clever bit? The section between the two appliances pulls out to provide a surface for clothes that have been taken out of the dryer.

Integrate cupboards elegantly
The staircase in this Victorian home was moved to create more space, so the joiners at Shape London have highlighted this as part of their design.
A run of push-to-open doors hides storage for items such as cleaning stuff, outdoor gear and toys. The joiners have then shown where the stairs used to be by adding a yellow outline, made from an engineered wood called Valchromat.

Build a clean-lined media unit
It’s not always easy to make a TV look elegant and attractive, but that’s what the team at Finch London have achieved with the storage furniture here. A simple white layout of wall-hung cabinets and shelves forms a symmetrical frame around the sleek black screen.
To ensure the cabinetry looks anchored to the white space, the team have added a 40mm layer of American black walnut to the top of the base unit.

Utilise a slim gap
How’s this for a neat piece of storage? A narrow space beside an integrated fridge-freezer has been utilised by slotting in a pull-out larder system.
Along the side wall, the team at Murray & Ball Furniture have hidden more storage behind a sliding barn door.

Adapt an existing item
An extractor fan can often pose a challenge, particularly if you’re keen to conceal it, which is what the owners of this kitchen wanted to do. The builders worked with the architect team at Archea and adapted the wall unit to accommodate the fan by turning the bottom shelf into a shallow space for spices jars, allowing room for the ducting below.

Use redundant space
The windows in this gorgeous apartment are wonderfully big, but that doesn’t leave much space below. However, it’s just the right size for some custom-made storage.
The designers, French company Atelier Olivier Bourdon, have used a pine plywood called batipin to make wide storage boxes that double up as seating. The budget-friendly material is a good choice if you want to keep costs down, and its warm tones add a cosy feel to the room.

If there’s one place in the home that’s hard to keep tidy, it’s the hallway. That longed-for calm welcome can often become an obstacle course of shoes, bags and umbrellas. To conquer the clutter, think about creating some cupboard storage in your entrance to hide all your outerwear from sight.
Here, the team at Lisette Voûte has designed a wall of cupboards with plenty of space for all sorts of outdoor paraphernalia. They’ve even managed to fit a seat and hooks in the centre, which provide easy access to frequently used items as well as a handy perch.
