If there’s anything the past couple of years have taught us, it’s how precious nature is for bringing us solace in a world of uncertainty. That’s why Dulux chose a positive colour that captures the warmth of the sun with a gentle hint of balancing green as 2023’s Colour of the Year Wild Wonder™.
“We always aim to capture the mood of the moment and choose a colour that gives us what we want and need from our homes right now,” says Dulux’s Creative Director Marianne Shillingford “This colour captures the subtle dynamism and positivity of nature. It’s gently warming, beautifully balancing and works with everything.”

Why it works…
“Wild Wonder™ is a colour we would describe as a foundation colour in nature,” says Marianne. “It is the colour of barley that is just about to ripen and has a delicate hint of green within a golden hue. It’s like sunshine after rain and adds warmth as well as freshness. We also love it because it’s so versatile and will work effortlessly with everything you already have in your home.”
The Dulux team have created four individual palettes of 10 colours that capture the most essential elements of nature we need in our homes. They are called: Lush, Buzz, Raw and Flow. Each palette includes Wild Wonder™ and has been designed so you can use the colours in any combination with confidence. Let’s take a look…

Create come-together spaces
The ’Buzz’ palette has been created in response to our desire for harmony, and brings together 10 uplifting shades of soft pink, warming copper, berry red, and juicy plum purple. When these bright, deep colours are combined with soft Wild Wonder™, small objects and groups of furniture are unified to create a harmonious space that’s wonderful to spend time in with friends and family.
Bonus tip: Use plenty of fresh flowers in the same tones to emphasise the natural connection, while monoprints and bold one-off designs will keep the room feeling contemporary.

Nurture your mind with soothing hues
The incredibly relaxing ‘Lush’ palette has been inspired by the healing power of wellbeing that nature offers. It brings together a collection of serene shades that echo the landscape and help us feel rooted in challenging times.
To create a tranquil sleep space, use different tones of green on the walls separated by stripes of Wild Wonder™ for interest. Add verdant, leafy foliage plants, like Fiddle Leaf Figs and Bird of Paradise, to really enhance the look.
Bonus tip: Complement these biophillic outdoor colours with warm velvets in berry shades, dark woods, copper and brass, then delight the senses with checks, softest mohair and natural linen.

Relax with organic natural colours and materials
Influenced by unprocessed, natural materials, Raw is a colour palette that taps into earth’s elemental designs and resources to create spaces that enrich our lives. Wild Wonder is the perfect backdrop for this relaxed, natural look.
The key to achieving this look is to layer. Start by using Wild Wonder™ as a base on the walls (and even the ceiling) then highlight architectural features with earthy brown and sun-baked clay hues to create a cocooning visual warmth. Layer with rustic finishes like unbleached silks and linens, handmade earthenware and wild grasses for a modern rural vibe.
Bonus tip: All woods work with this look, particularly roughly sewn edges, while wicker furniture can make the space feel airy and light.
