Maybe someone here can advise me! I have a little dwarf cherry tree that I only bought in late summer and it started showing tiny brown buds in the warm spell we had in September/October here in southern England. Now all it’s leaves are gone but the buds are still there. Do I need to protect it in the current frosty weather and if so, how? It’s in a huge half barrel and can’t be moved.

HU-62541122 All the trunk of a tree fern is root. Try digging one up that has been in the soil for 5 + years. They do have roots into the soil, masses of them.

I have dug up tree ferns that have been in the ground over 10 years and 6 foot plus tall, the roots that hold them in the soil are anchor roots not feeding roots and therefore do not need protecting, that was my comment
