Muted colours, warm timber and simple lines – the midcentury look never seems to go out of fashion, which helps to explain why this photo is so popular.
Designer Fiona Campbell has mixed wood, geometrics and fine-textured fabrics for an update on the style in this bedroom. Layering subtle shades – from pale grey-blue through to pea green – with crisp white and rich timber has created a calm yet cosy scheme.

Tucked up in the roof, this bedroom design by iLoft Conversions shows how storage can be both discreet and plentiful. Cupboards fill the eaves and a bank of wardrobes rises up with the ceiling to create room for bulkier items alongside the bed.
Painting the cupboard doors the same putty colour as the walls and other woodwork helps them to retreat into the background, so the scheme’s natural textures – exposed brick, rattan light shade, flatweave rug and timber floor – can stand out and give the room its snug character.

For those who love a crisp white bedroom but don’t want to forgo cosiness, this design from AD Construction offers wonderful inspiration. The designer has introduced plenty of natural textures to soften the white walls. The palette is still pale and neutral to keep the airy feel, but the textures are layered and luxurious, adding warmth to the scheme.
From the textiles – including the gloriously fluffy rug – to the parquet flooring, natural wood bench and rustic plant pots, this room signals comfort.

If you want your bedroom to feel luxurious and special, you might find ideas in this elegant design by Tracy Holliday Interiors. It’s the crisp lines and attention to detail that give this popular scheme its edge – flush recessed shelving units with smart frames; a generous upholstered headboard, and richly gathered curtains.
The palette is restricted for a calm feel, and repetition – the orange cushion and chair; the pendant light and ceramics; the brass lines running through the side tables, light fitting, bedside tables and chair – helps the look feel cohesive.
There’s also a TV and a fireplace opposite the bed, which would make it very difficult ever to get up.

Headboards that stretch beyond the bed are something we see quite often on Houzz and, with fluting a strong trend, the padded style seen here is increasingly cropping up, too.
The upholstery in this scheme by Angel O’Donnell frames the bed, making it the focal point of the room, and provides a backdrop for the whole space, with the olive green velvet standing out amid muddy pinks and pale neutrals.
As we see so often with Houzz users’ favourite photos, cosy textures are key, and this room is no exception, with everything from cushions and throws to the sofa adding warmth.

This is another feature we’re seeing more of on Houzz – acoustic panelling. The natural wood slats backed by dark felt fit nicely with the trend for fluted surfaces and dampen sound into the bargain.
In this design by Akiva Projects, the panelling creates a feature wall that both frames the bed and brings the warmth of wood into the room, while slatted timber pendant lights echo the look and keep the mini bedside tables clear. The faintly striped bed throw subtly links to the panelling.

This dark purple design by The Loft Room – where walls, ceiling and woodwork are all painted in the same shade – not only creates an enveloping space for deep sleep, but allows the view to take centre stage in the daytime.
Rich velvets – on the cushions, throw and chair (just seen, bottom left) – chime with the soft sheen of the matt purple. And nothing jars in this space, with natural wood furniture and flooring, warm brass, and a dreamy landscape artwork all adding gentle layers to the scheme.

Many of us like the idea of a retreat – a room that’s private and removed from the hubbub of more public spaces – so it’s no surprise this scheme by Pfeiffer Design has proved popular with Houzz users.
The pretty floral wallpaper makes a statement and gives the room a strong personality. What keeps it on the elegant side is the way the rest of the space has been decorated with mostly plain colours, luxurious fabrics and elegant furniture.
Notice that most of the furniture has a delicate silhouette, with floating bedside tables and both the sofa and chest of drawers on slim legs, to keep the look light and ensure nothing detracts from the painterly florals.

It’s not uncommon for children to ask for bright colours in their bedrooms, but to give this teenager’s space longevity, designer Andrew Griffiths of A New Day Design Studio chose a pale shade of the pink tone that was requested and teamed it with sage green for a sophisticated look.
Painting the woodwork pink and choosing pale pink bed linen while keeping the walls a soft off-white is a nice design twist that enhances the grown-up feel.

This bedroom, featuring smart built-in wardrobes and an over-bed niche, demonstrates how to incorporate plenty of storage into a compact space without crowding it, helping to propel this image to the top of the most-saved bedroom photos in the first half of 2023.
The wardrobes, which sit either side of a chimney breast, run right up to the ceiling for maximum capacity, while the niche runs almost the width of the bed. The bed also lifts up to reveal more storage inside.
Painting the wardrobes in a soft putty shade helps them to retreat, while the rich, rust velvet headboard draws the eye to the bed as the central feature.
