I spent an absolute fortune buying unbelievably expensive linen, for the look (I've given up ironing), the eco-credentials (as discussed on a recent BBC podcast), and the fact that it's naturally antimicrobial. It looks amazing, dries in a few hours just slung over the bannister, and doesn't need to be ironed (Yay!) But it still feels a little bit like sleeping on sandpaper :(

Excellent post! So many people go for Egyptian cotton on the assumption that it's the best but don't check the quality. Also, silk pillowcases are great for your hair and are really underrated.

I personally prefer the feel of linen to sateen which feels slightly cold and dare I say at times a bit 'slimy'. I don't think I could bear to sleep in silk bedlinen!
