5. Be inspired by a Japanese aesthetic
Traditional Japanese techniques were the inspiration for this kitchen-diner, which feels light, balanced and practical. The cabinetry by H Miller Bros is crafted from British elm and every element of the design was made bespoke for the family who live in the house.
There are no wall cupboards above the sink unit, which adds to the calm, uncluttered feel. In their place is a slatted screen with a light behind, which shines through to cast a warm, dappled glow over the space.
