Living room - Which shade of coffee?

Evening all.

Moving into a house in the next few weeks that needs bringing up to date. Living room photos below. New carpet, curtains and paint are a must. I'm thinking a light coffee colour for the paint. Does anyone have a recommendation for which paint or recommendations for carpet colour? Cheers.

By looking at your idea books it seems you are drawn to fairly neutral colour palettes of greys and creams and taupes so why don't you start there. 'Coffee' sounds like another way of saying brown lol which I think, only my opinion of course, is pretty dated. But you haven't given much detail for people to work with and you have a pretty blank canvas to start with if you are painting and getting new carpets. What kind of a feel do you want to create? Who will use the room? And what purpose? What is your furniture like? This will help people get an idea of what style you are after.

When I said coffee I certainly didn't mean brown and I agree that it is dated.

As you say, the room will effectively be a blank canvas which is great but it means I'm literally starting again. Yes I intend to paint and replace the carpet (I'm 30, current owners are close to 70) but struggling with where to start.

I'd like the room to be warm and smart. I'd like it to be regal too (if that's possible!). Pastels seem a good idea. In my head I was thinking of a weak latte on the walls, brushed chrome fittings, white doors.

Carpet over wooden floors is a must for me but I'm uncertain whether latte-ish paint would suit carpet and if so what colour.

I'm also concerned that with it being a biggish room whether beiges, lattes etc might look a little tacky?

So in short I'm open to ideas!

I used the pale version of slaked lime (which makes a great substitute for white in a bright room) but the darker one may suit better. Also, it looks beautiful with wood flooring. Portland stone also is lovely but with a more olivey tone.

If you take the material sample to a big paint store, they will do an exact match for you and you can then look at the range associated with that (on their swatches). So you could go for, say, a darker version of the blueish grey or the exact shade of cream/taupe in the material? Hope that helps a bit with your thought process, especially as you're in a rush! xxx

What a gorgeous sofa, good choice. I think you could go either way. That is calm neutral shades like your first rug, or a bit spicier with the gold one. Blue and gold are always a good look. As to the coffee table, don’t panic yet. I think it would fit in better with calmer neutrals rather than the gold. The gold rug would suit a table like that morrocan brass one you have in the corner, it’s lovely. Now to throw a spanner in the works, how about a Persian style rug? It would really suit your room. It’s just a suggestion, and it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I love that vintage eclectic look. The red ones look amazing with blue.

Hi Lisa, we love the mix of colours in here. We would suggest a round coffee table to break up the shapes already in the room. A round coffee table will echo the ceiling light and mirror shape too.
