As others have said, fixing the clutter and adding art will help. I know you said you have a print going to the framers; that's great. (I like simple, black frames, personally, but the frame needs to work with the art.) The only thing you have hanging on the wall is way under scaled. You don't really have a dominant design element or something for the eye to latch on to. So the eye just sort of floats around the room. I don't care for the wall color. It's rather bland and causes everything to blend together. I'd have to think about what it could be changed to a little more. This might seem sort of ironic since I am saying your current wall color is bland, but white could work very well. It would give you contrast to you floor. Also you have sort of a modern vibe going with the dining table, chairs, and light fixture; and white walls can work well for modern rooms. So here's the big thing, and I don't think you're going to like it. Right now, your chandelier / light fixture is in the middle of the room, and you don't have anything over the dining table. You need to move the light fixture to over the table, lower it, and add art to the wall behind the table. This will create a nice, intimate atmosphere for dining while helping to define the dining space. This is going to mess with your projection system, but it would totally change the room.

Hi Maggie, love the blinds – what a stunning statement feature! For the carpet, we’d recommend you opt for something a neutral to create an ideal base and help create an open, airy feel. Dulux Spice Honey is the colour of the year and is a far cry from the abundance of greys that have dominated interior design over the past few years. It’s the perfect shade for creating a warm and cosy room and complements richly pigmented shades such as terracotta’s and reds (two themes coming out of the Pantone Colour Trend report) but works well with neutrals too. It can easily be incorporated into flooring as well with shades such as Dunmore Creek from our Sensation Heathers range and Amaretto from Soft Focus. If those kitchen units are sound it appears they suit the character of the building. It seems a shame to plan on ripping them out. If anything it is the colour of them that is wrong. I would find a tile that I loved and do all the splashback up to the wall cupboards including the cooker back and remove the little upstand from the worksurface too. Get the units professionally repainted to compliment the tiling. Dispense with the roller blind and maybe get a painted wooden venetian then get a large rug to make it all feel more cosy. A bit more than a paint job but a lot less disruptive than a whole new kitchen.
