I want to be more eclectic!!

Here are a few pics of my dining rooms do living room (excuse the mess) I will post more pics of other rooms - we really haven't done anything except plunk our furniture down in here I want more of an eclectic fun , modern clean quirky look but I have always bought such traditional pieces - how can I incorporate what I have with what I want?

I would suggest getting rid of the rugs. Then use splashes of bright colour in cushions, chair/table legs and accessories. You have a nice mix of things at the minute.

do you have floor plan? is that a couch table in front of the two armchairs? you should go for different wall lights, more quirky ones in brass finish. they should be bigger so that they stand out! round mirror. you will definitely need one cushion on each chair. I would bring in the blue.

I've just thought of a new one. There are quite a few more feminine oriented topics and articles in here which is totally understandable given the demographics and followers, but I think it would be nice to have an article on styling a bachelor pad for us male fans of design. Not necessarily cliche ones with interiors showing pool tables, photos of cars and gadgets as not all men are gadget obsessed, just a good quality article showing more masculine colour themes, textures etc. I'm always inspired by interiors by Tom Ford, Natuzzi and Bo Concept as good examples.

If your furniture and rug are staying you probably need to go lighter as I don't see any gray,try BM Linen for the walls to go with your chairs and BM decorators white for trim ,then paint your doors black for an updated look

Zenith is an old established Swiss Clocl maker. Restored, your clockmay be worth a bit in auction. A nice find as it is.

I would go for a slightly industriał look. I would paint the walls in farrow and balls downpipe to create a backdrop for any eclectic pieces. Try made.com for some funky statement lighting at reasonable prices (I don't work there but have bought a few from there!). The dining table looks good but would paint the chairs in a bright colour/s. Try annie slogans chalk paint as no preparation is needed. I would add some funky artwork, the vintage travel ones that are around at the moment look really quirky and modern and can be picked up cheaply. I think the wing chairs would work with this scheme but the rugs and mirrors would have to go..it's difficult to see what other furniture you have but do consider painting and stencilling as makeovers can be done very cheaply. For info, you can also paint fabric using annie Sloan paint and if waxed it gives a leather appearance. I Don't know how you feel about the fireplace but painting it a bright blue for example could look modern and eclectic (assuming it is painted black at present as I wouldn't paint stone or anything!).

Accessorise with one off personality pieces. Maybe replace those seat pads at the dining table and put some cushions in those wingback chairs, or paint the table legs. Splashes of colour and some floor lamps to give a glow to the room. Have added some pictures!

If your big pieces are traditional try and take some of the smaller pieces and replace with more modern/vintage/quirky pieces. I actually really like some of the items in your pictures like the flags.

The key to being eclectic is being individual. Recover some of your armchair seats in a favorite fabric (plaid or patterned), find unusual ways to paint designs on your walls (washi tape is a great starting point but by no means the only way). Find flea market finds you like.

However, you do need to keep some discipline in a theme, colour or texture to successfully unite your pieces to create visual harmony rather than cacophony.

I would paint your dining chairs, make roman blinds using the curtain fabric and paint walls/ceilings/doors etc natural white.
