How has the electric shower been fitted to achieve this look?

The shower doesn't have the standard hose and head attached. Was it difficult to achieve this bespoke look?

Hi - in response to Carol's comment, I attach a photo of what we've done so far. We had the power company come in and move the meter down slightly (that was the bit on the left in the original photo above) and put it onto a smaller backplate for us. Then we had our electrician in to put in a new fusebox. Then we had our carpenter in to make a small box picking up the moulding on the inside front door, which also matches the doors leading off the hallway. We had the plasterer in to make good the area. So far that's where we are as we don't want to paint until we do the whole hallway, and first we need to change the radiator from the old flat panel one to something more in keeping with the property. I particularly resonated with Jonathan's comment above, with the thought that the eye wants to 'read' the ceiling and floor details...we felt a big box going across the whole top of the front door would feel a little 'top heavy' - as we came down the stairs and as you entered the hallway from the kitchen. We are pleased that the footprint of the whole thing was massively reduced. It turns out to be a handy little place to stash a torch as well. Thanks for everyone's comments - it was very much appreciated. Maybe I can send a photo of the final final result once decorated!

I would, in no small way, be miffed that the architects incorporated a communal space without first checking they could! A basic oversight. I agree with Kingfisher. If this is a short term fix, meaning you don’t want to spend too much, then moving the staircase for such little gain seems to be throwing good money away. It looks like you could still have just about everything you require without moving the staircase. When I say just about I mean not to have an en-suite (you mention it but I cannot see it on your plan). On the lower ground you have room for the master bedroom and nursery with one bathroom. Your proposal to build a wall to make the nursery smaller, thereby continuing the corridor to the door, solves your cat flap problem and can still be done with the stairs where there are. I agree that you should remove that internal door and small wall in the hall. It would open out the space and let in more light. On the raised ground level again your plan is good and can be achieved whilst leaving the stairs well alone. You have indicated that you want the study to also serve as a third bedroom. I imagine this is for occasional guests so would primarily be a study. Have you heard of Murphy beds?They are an ingenious way to utilise your space to its fullest where the bed is stored vertically inside a cupboard. studybed.com is just one site of many that offer other combinations of transformational furniture. The studybed is a desk that folds out into a bed. That leaves your good proposal to convert the living room into the kitchen/living room and yes I would move the front door.

Personally I think you will struggle to buy a fireplace that is the right proportions for this tall room and you should buy more wardrobes to match what you already have. You might also see if the manufacturer produces cabinets designed to sit on top to visually add height to the wardrobes. As far as decoration I think you need to find images that inspire you and copy that style. I stayed in a hotel that had similar sloped ceilings and they achieved a relaxed but sumptuous feel by layering lots of textures. The sawn wood floors had rugs, the walls had wall panelling. The wardrobes were upholstered to match the headboard. The bedding had three different materials. There was lighting from many sources.
