Lounge/diner /kitchen layout
Comments (12)Hello Emma, I have to say I really like the cluster shade light! It's gr8.. You can do very little here and make a difference.. Move the table out a bit into the room.. So it's under the light.. Leave the table very bare.. I'd possibly look for a picture that accented the colours of the shade... Warm beige, browns, creams... Also at the other end of the room, why not have another... It's a really interesting light.. It would work with the sofa as well. You could move the dresser along a bit so it's nearer the dining end.. Bring the arm chair a little closer in to the living area and possible bring the sofa forward a bit.. You could have a nice rug and a coffee table here. I would get some cushions that accent the shades and definitely consider duplicating that in the living half of the room... I found a blue version so you could place the blue canvas in the living area, have some blue and brown cushions to accent the blue and brown shades.. You could also introduce a couple of lamps with similar shades.. I have included a glass base purposefully as the shade is the accent here.. to compliment the pendant (s) :))...See MoreOpen plan kitchen layout for kitchen diner/playroom.
Comments (16)An L shaped design sounds fine to me and I think it's practicality will outweigh concerns about it dominating. I agree a soft white is nicer in an older property and a more modern look than gloss but I don't agree that a painted finish is better with young ones as it can chip- I would look for a laminate door which despite being perceived to be lower quality will likely stand up to rough treatment...See MoreLayout - Too weird to add a bathroom to living room or kitchen/diner?
Comments (14)Idea - on the original downstairs - if the kitchen top/bar came from the bathroom side of the room it might divide up the space better - i.e. kitchen<->dining would not be via/infront of the bathroom door and your natural route to the bathroom would be more along the side of the diner than through it? Perhaps a bar/open room divider might also help the effect? Effectively the right hand side of the house becomes a corridor/thoroughfare even if its not divided like a traditional hallway. Old fashioned perhaps - consider all options - shoe horning open plan into a space 'just because' isn't necessarily the right route. I'd also dig up the original floor plan - i.e. don't necessarily work from where you are now? Just a thought. Or perhaps something like this - pocket door into the diner - might need some tinkering since it nicks the long wall in your lounge as pictured... Bathroom doesn't move though so water in/out is sorted and I'm sure a bathroom can make effective use of under stair space somehow?...See MoreVery long room.... kitchen/diner layout..help needed!
Comments (9)plenty of room i'd say! i'd stick it in the bottom end behind a wall of tall units for the kitchen (fridge, freezer, oven tower, pantry) and then have base units only along the wall facing bay window (to keep it bright and airy and maximise the width of the room as much as possible). then the bay window could be a lovely built-in seated area for table, or there's space for an island and then the bay window becomes circulation space. the top end looks like glass all the way round? so assuming dining table would go there - but if you did the window seat and table then that could be seating area instead....See MoreMarcus Green
