Help, too much of a good thing: living room too large/too much light
Comments (18)Great apartment. I would agree with the previous comment about getting an interior designer on board, preferably one whom will pass on their trade discounts! I also agree with other comments re zoning, scale etc. I'd also decide what you want to do with the kitchen before looking at the rest of the room as it's a little awkward. I don't know if it would be possible to get a flue in the roof for a suspended log burner? Alternatively which I prefer (but would get a render done first!) is to have a double sided bioethanol fireplace finished in a polished plaster to add texture. I'm not sure what the 5 doors/panels are but could they be covered in a leather/shagreen leather again for texture and interest. You're lacking walls to add art so you could look at suspending double sided art from the ceiling (last pic just to give an idea!) or add sculptures on plinth/s or an art rug (if in budget Knots rugs do some fantastic ones). I'd also look at adding pendant lights. I'd also go for the same style blinds to what they have in place now. If you add lots of textures elsewhere then curtains aren't really needed and I'm not sure they'd enhance such a great feature. Perhaps look into solar window film to make the light more bearable and prevent fading? Does the balcony wrap around as potted plants would also add privacy?...See MoreNew window style help please
Comments (3)Hi Mike, it looks like your neighbours have achieved what may have been the original look by breaking up the large area windows with top lights (that perhaps have leaded squares?) If this appeals, I would suggest Residence Collection R9 windows, which achieve a fantastic authentic timber appearance, but offer all the advantages of modern, almost maintenance free efficient uPVC windows. The example shows a bay window, but will give a good idea of the look) If you don't like the look of leaded squares in the toplights, perhaps a single astragal bar addition or some georgian bars would help break up the look? (Sorry the example is a bay again) As Christine pointed out, the various sizes of window your property has will make it difficult to achieve a uniform look across all the windows, but careful measuring and designing will be able to put some symmetry into the result. Newcastle Under Lyme is a bit far for our installers as we are primarily based in the South East but you can find a local Residence Collection installer here. If uPVC is not your bag, then perhaps you may consider aluminium windows? The extra strength allows for finer sightlines which will help let in more light. This lovely example has large leaded squares on a very complimentary anthracite grey, but you can get them powder coated in any colour - including white . I hope that helps your planning and provides some more decisions. Comments (19)I agree, would try swapping the snuggle chair and sofa and move the tv to the other side of the fire. I’d also move the chair in the bay and angle it towards the seating and add a Kentia palm. You could try both a larger rug and larger table lamp. I’ve posted this cushion before but thought you may like it and it introduces another colour. I might add a coffee table and rearrange art slightly but would be good to see how the layout changes work. You have some lovely things, they just need adding to in terms of accessories? I can’t get into F&B website atm and not famIliar with their new whites but maybe schoolhouse white would work? I’d paint the frieze and the piece above it too...See MoreLarge window advice please
Comments (5)Hi Ellie, that's why I want the back door and the fixed window to match, in height/width, so not disjointed like you see. It was going to be completely taken out & french doors added. Now I'm planning that the door & 'window' to be side by side but with the soil stack part of the wall remaining in between, but one will be the back door the other fixed. The plan is to have them both just completely glazed not a half n half door like it is currently....See Moremalorey
