Jam Jar lights

Please can you let me know if you can put a brighter bulb in these jam jar lights. I am hoping to hang something like that over the island in a kitchen where there is a hob. Also can you change the cord to a black and white stripe cord? Many thanks for your help and I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Amelia

Thank you for getting in touch.

We suggest using a 15W bulb (particularly if you're opting for a squirrel cage filament bulb - as per our picture) as they heat up very quickly and therefore the jars themselves get warm. However, by all means, you can use any bulb that has an E14 fitting, and they will work perfectly in the jars.

With regards to the cord, yes we can do a black and white zig zag cord. I've attached a photograph for you, so you can see the design of the cord.

Tee hee, I think of it an updated classic minus that shade!! Have you looked at India jane? Some of them are quite reasonable. I pretty much like all of them but may not be your thing. Is the lamp to go on a table near where the boys play? Could you swap other lamps if you want glass? Or would a desk style brass lamp work, maybe a more modern retake? Or again I'm not sure it's your thing but you could have a ginger jar base and get a shade to match.

Hi, I definitely think rooms that get a lot of natural light can take the punchier darker colours. For the feature wall I can suggest rockett st George as a place which has loads of great wallpapers. For getting it to work with the dark walls I think it's key to pick out the dark colour in the wallpaper somewhere. Going completely different is likely to be a little jarring visually.

HI, yes agree, 2 or three pendants depending on the size over the peninsula, those Broadway Emery Vintage Mini pendant lights are good as they're only 20cm across. You'd need larger for the dining table. The Artisan Lamp holder with braided flex is just a pendant fitting that you have to put a shade on, so it wouldn't work unless you can find a shade that you like. Still best to go for items from the same range, You need a pendant light fitting for the dining room in the range of 300mm to 500mm wide depending on how wide and long the table is really. Regards the spots, keep those on the kitchen light switch as a separate entity, so on or off, and have separate spurs for your dining room and the island so that you can dim them and have them on or off without the kitchen lights. Make sure, as i said earlier that you buy dimmable switches and dimmable bulbs.

Hi Becky! I love the idea of copper and mint green kitchen. You've already bought some minty stuff which is great, you can still use them. Heres what I'm thinking... 1. Get some spotlights in there perhaps underneath your wall cabinets? 2. Love the idea of bringing in more herb pots & plants. 3. Change the tiling to mint green or perhaps something a lot lighter, like the marble effect? It will go perfectly with the mint green theme.
