Comments (21)What a great space, love the Crittal doors. I’d definitely go light, white ceiling and walls with brilliant white gloss skirting to show off the flooring. On the “mirror” wall I’d put wall paper to add interest and bring in the dark blue of the neighbouring kitchen. There are so many patterns to choose from. The space has a modern feel with a nod to previous eras with parquet type floor and black glazing so I’d look at the William Morris design range of Wallpapers - old traditional style with amazing patterns and colours relevant to today. good luck...See MoreDecorating a hallway and stairs
Comments (4)Thank you all for your comments and I totally take on board what you’re saying about furnishings. Minnie101 I really appreciate you showing me that image and helps to visualise how it could look. What did you use to pull that together? Im off to look for some nice furnishings and I like the idea of black to lift it as you’ve suggested, Sonia. I also painted the under stairs wall a taupe colour and think I like that. I was put off going even slightly darker due to light but it’s really growing on me....See Moredecorative furniture for hall corner

Comments (15)Yay…. Sonia has finally come to the dark side with me. Welcome Sonia- I will forward an invitation to the next meeting!! I love strong colours and find very pale schemes sterile and uncomfortable to live with. And so I second the vote for an opulent blue. I agree that you can’t make this traditional pattern look modern….. but you can make this expensive carpet look like it belongs. I think the current problem is that the walls seem especially stark against the jewel like tone of this carpet and you need to reduce the contrast. So I echo the call for a strong blue such as blue black or Hague Blue from Farrow and ball. It might feel more palatable to add a dado rail and paint above in a different colour. If you do this be careful not to go too pale- instead try to find an alternative colour in this carpet- I bet there is already a stone or beige colour in the pattern. Finally if you are trying to match wall colours to the carpet make sure you are comparing paint samples with the actual carpet colour. In other words clean at least a section of it now before you decide on paint just to make sure you are choosing the right colour....See MoreRodney C
