Hard to say! Ideally Hidden! But then it tends to be a smaller bin. Unless you go for a under counter bin sorter where you can sort your recycling from your waste, They are popular with our clients! Like this!

Hi we would always recommend bins hidden away in drawers or a cupboard. We have many options theses days for recycling etc. Nobody wants a huge smelly bin in the corner like the old days and now it is 5 pence for a carrier bag the bin cupboard is an important decision in any kitchen. I want easy access so my children use it. So it is exposed. And I have several trash cans, one in the bathroom, one in the kitchen, one in the main bedroom, on in the childrens room, one in the conservatory and one in the living room.

We have a large 50L bin in our kitchen which, with myself, my husband and two adult children, needs emptying almost every day. We live in a rural area where we don't have recycling collections so it fills up pretty quickly. I try to minimize our waste as much as possible but unfortunately hidden bins wouldn't work for us. Not unless I could put up with the hassle of changing the bin 3 or 4 times a day

We have a large bin in our adjoining utility room, near the door - convenient but not in the kitchen where we prepare food. It is emptied daily even if there is not too much in it as we have several recycling bins outside ….

I used to have a free standing bin in kitchen (was ugly), now its in a pull out drawer under the sink along with my recycling. It take a fairly big bag, very happy its hidden now, and yes empty once every 2 or 3 days, its perfect for us (family of 3)

Recycling is the answer and helps to keep it all tidy. A small lidded bin for food waste (which could be out of sight in a cupboard but we find easier to use on the worktop by the sink) and everything else in containers inside cupboards. This includes a larger bin for plastics, smaller bins for paper, cans and glass, and a small waste bin inside the door under the sink. None of these cost the earth. We bought cheap plastic bins/boxes to fit our cupboards.

Recycle everything the council will accept and store recycling in the utility room, it is hard to get to the washing machine by recycling day. Made a rat proof compost bin in the veg garden for all food waste and one large Brabantia bin in the kitchen for everything else, this gets emptied once a week on bin day.

We have a small bin under the sink for non recycling things, black plastic, the pods from my coffee machine, dirty kitchen roll etc., which before 5p a bag started, used to be lined with a shopping bag, now I save the planet by buying a roll of bin bags! We also have a small food compost bin next to it, which I buy special bags for from amazon. Then, in the garage, which is next to the utility room we have the paper, tin, glass, plastic recycling boxes, the big food bin with the strong lid and the larger general waste bin which is collected every fortnight. I hate seeing bins outside houses and think that the new bin system which requires such a collection of bins has meant some terraced houses in our area have gone down in value, the residents are not always tidy and the council should provide better ways of collecting and dealing with rubbish when people find it hard to store it out of sight. Seeing bins around is one of my big pet hates!

I use Ikea laundry storage bins (the ones that look like old fashioned enamel dustbins) as I can't store them out of sight. I have a large one for recycling and a smaller one for other rubbish, I also have a vintage enamel pail with a lid for food waste and they all sit by the back door. We don't have wheelie bins as there is no access to our outside space except through the house, so we are given blue bin bags for recycling and purple for the rest and a small food bin, so I just line the bins with the appropriate bag. Ideally it would be nice not to have them on show but it works well and I'm used to it now.

Its a pretty bin with a bit of style but its at the backdoor area of the kitchen, half hidden.

I have a large recycling bin, a rubbish bin and a compost bin, all nicely hidden behind a door under my sink.... for the last 6 months that is, before I used to have this horrible bag hanging off my door, another recycling bag and a compost bin, what a mess it was...

All my rubbish gets taken outside to the appropriate bin. Usually by me as no one else in the house can be bothered and dump there rubbish on the worktop in the utility room. I would have to empty and sort the bins if they were inside anyway. At least this way putting it outside as I go saves space and smells inside.

Always hidden and deliberately small. I have never understood the common practice of a giant bin in a kitchen. Seems just lazy to me. Rubbish should be taken outside very frequently, not left to rot indoors. And so many people never clean the actual bin. Conversely, I do have a giant recycling bin indoors. Its contents are clean and bulky - that's why it is big.

I have 2 - one in the larder, one as a roll out in the island.
