Need design inspiration for a kitchen/diner in an old farmhouse

We live in a traditional double fronted old farmhouse with a north facing kitchen and seperate south facing dining room with a large fireplace. We would like to knock the dividing wall out and have a large family kitchen that will be the hub of the house. I like the combination of modern/traditional but am a bit scared we get it wrong. This is a large project for us and an suggestions, style ideas or tips would be most appreciated.
