Kitchen floor help

Hello,

We are planning our new Kitchen for a London Victorian terraced house.

We are pretty sure we are going to have dark blue base kitchen cabinets, a white marble work top (or similar), and white wall cabinets (similar to the picture shown).

Can anyone suggest what floor would go best with this style? We are most likely going to avoid real/engineered wood (given the impracticalities) and are most likely considering porcelain tiles. Can anyone recommend which porcelain tiles and in which colours would look best?

Hi there,

Beautiful kitchen by the way.

I would recommend that you go for a cement or grey granite effect floor tile. This should compliment the kitchen and create a warm feel.

I would avoid lighter colour tiles as I feel these may clash with the worktop and wall tiles creating an unbalanced look.

Or... There are some really great wood look tiles about ? That can look great in a period home too !

I think the third one. Light but warm. The first one is very 'characterful' with large knots which would give more of a rustic feel. This can work in both period and contemporary spaces, but if its a wood effect flooring, the more prominent the character features, the more obvious it will be that its not real. If its a real wood floor then you could go for a character grade oak. Talk to your supplier or fitter about a clear lacquer or oil finish. They are much improved in recent years with no yellowing with time.

I also really like the lighter wooden tiles you have chosen but do agree with the above comment you have a lot of different wooden textures going on if you choose that option. Maybe a warm grey stone effect tile could really work in this case. https://www.houzz.co.uk/projects/2575345/ebony-pine-wood-and-cloud-gret-matt-kitchen We used a MP 60 x 60 mashups tile in this project to create warmth within a property that has exposed beams and it worked beautifully. Hi Ellie, the tiles are Minoli Stelvio walnut glazed porcelain. She got them from my stepson-in-laws tile shop Apex Grange in Welwyn Garden City, but there are other suppliers of course. My sister is rather flattered! She even had a neighbour asking who supplied her new front colour..........I can only bask in her glory :-)

Hi. I'd also go for wood effect porcelain in a mid tone.

There are lots around that can be laid in a herringbone pattern. I'm quite jealous as this is exactly what I would want for my kitchen but can't have :) I'd have a look at the marble effect Quartz for the worktop
