I want to make roman blinds out of curtains to match a blind.
Comments (5)For my first roman blind I used a roman blind kit from Dunelm, worked out great. I then used those instructions to go on to make a further 12 (never buy a house with 5 sided bay windows!) and purchased the bits needed from terrysfabrics as mentioned by Catherine Byrne. They are really straightforward. The key is to take your time with your measurements/calculations and with ensuring your edges and rod pockets are straight....See MoreBlinds/curtains for new flat
Comments (5)Hi there, congratulations for having your first place! Moving into a new place is always exciting, but especially when it's your first place together. Let's start with practical issues. For the bedrooms the main thing is that you have proper blackout to guarantee a good sleep. You can combine a blackout roller blind with full lenght curtains (so you can have lighter curtains) or full lenght curtains with a blackout lining (normal lining isn't usually enough to blockout the light). It doesn't sound like a big deal, but if you want to sleep a bit later in the morning or happen to be unwell, it is really nice to be able to make the bedroom as dark as possible. The kitchen curtains depend on how close to the sink and the hob they are. If the window is on the other side of the room than the hob, then curtains are ok. But if the window is right next to the hob, I don't recommend having curtains as they go horrible in no time. In the living room you don't necessarily need blackout curtains so you can choose to have lighter curtains which are mainly for decorative purposes and to add texture to the room. One thing to take into consideration is insulation. In many houses windows can be really drafty and come winter, you may wish you had chosen thick curtains to keep the cold out. Wheather you go for roman blinds or full lenght curtains really is a matter of taste, but you also need to consider what works best for the size of the windows you have, if there is space for full lenght curtains (for example, you might have a radiator under the window in which case full lenght curtains may not be the best option). All curtain options have a different look, so I suggest you first decide what kind of a look you want to achieve in each room and then see which curtain option best delivers that look (taking into account practicalities). Hope this helps, Kati...See MoreBlackout for arched window (curtain/blinds/shutters)?
Comments (1)Have a piece of thick MDF cut to fit it like a child’s wooden jigsaw - insert it at night - if it’s covered with wadding and fabric it will squeeze in and stop the light. In the daytime just sit it on the floor or keep it under the bed....See Moreblinds and curtains blinds and curtains
Comments (4)Hello. I'm not sure if I am in right place but I just didn't find a topic about DYI windows blinds so maybe it would be useful not only for me. I and my wife after a year finally finished our home rework. Of course, there still is a lot of work to do, but at least now we can live there :huray: . The first thing that annoys us a lot is disturbing morning sun. We can't get enough sleep, because of it. So we started looking for windows blinds. So far we decided that we want roller blinds. But after long research, we find out that there is an option to get customized blinds and even create our own. There is one of the links where you can do it: https://www.blindsonwindows.com/diy-roller-blinds. So now there is a question, is anyone has tried it, or something similar and maybe could share their thoughts about quality and is it even worth it?...See MoreA Life More Beautiful
