Ok - been mulling over this since I glanced at it in my lunch break .... Dependent on lots of structural things obviously - and only if it's a two storey not a three storey home ... Here's a bit of a suggestion .... A = tv snug with best views and wood burner stove B = study area / play storage behind sofa C = fab dining area with glass doors leading to kitchen and hallway hopefully brining some extra daylight in - but huge fancy lights over table too !! D = slightly re-jigged kitchen with island E = triple sliding doors to reveal laundry and folding shelves / extra pantry storage F = downstairs shower room G = adult lounge with fireplace - more of a talking entertaining area - so no tv. ( use iPads !!! Lol ) Hope it gives some ideas ?! [ marketing note - this is an example of the sketch consult service OnePlan provide... We happily provided this for free to this Houzzer, on this occasion . Normal rates would be £35 p/h. Full CAD images available too, at either an hourly rate or fixed room rate. We are freelance concept planners, selling only design !]

Thanks for all your comments. I think 'SC' is the stairs cupboard which has an opening in the kitchen. I agree about changing the opening to the hall. Thanks JenP. The hallway is fine. It's just the actual entrance hall we'll like to open up somehow for a little more circulation space if at all possible. At the moment , the stairs is immediately to to the left of the front door as you come in and a wall straight down on the other side. kiwimills, thanks. I never even thought about using the corner at the end of the hallway. I think that will work very well . Thanks again all.

If the utility becomes a dumping ground currently - at least you can close the door to it . If you open everything up then all that dumped stuff will just be visible to all surely? Why not look at what’s dumped - is it laundry ? Is it waiting to be ironed ? Or waiting to be taken upstairs ? Or dirty washing to be sorted into colour/white/darks etc. If so - redesign the utility to have an ironing board area and shelving for folded washing, and sorting baskets for dirty laundry, hanging pole for ironed shirts on coat hangers etc. If the stuff dumped is outdoor coats boots dog walking stuff etc then it might be better to design a boot room space instead ? Do you see where I’m going with this? The space isn’t currently working - so yes - some redesign is required - but needs lots of looking at WHY it’s not working in order to fix it properly. I’d suggest you go though this in great detail. Look at what’s wrong and then start making it work better. ( this is the sort of project we often work with clients on ! You aren’t alone !)

The majority of carcases are made out of MFC. Most people choose white. You buy them according to the size you want and depending where you get them from they could offer purpose made sizes as opposed to the standard 150mm, 300mm, 350mm and so on in increments of 50mm. There is normally no 700mm as standard but as said can be produced depending in where you opt to to get them from. Many now come with soft close as standard. Most are flat packed so you have to assemble them and put the cams and pegs in place but some are supplied semi assembled (like the ones we sell) so can be put together in 2 minutes. The cost of the carcases will vary depending on colour, flat packed, semi assembled or fully assembled. The doors have to be manufactured. They‘re not just cut to size as you say. You need to know what size you want before ordering them as you can’t just cut one down that’s too big. Worktops are a minefield of choice from solid timber, laminate, Quartz or solid surface. All vary in price. I would not bother getting carcases from one supplier and then doors from another. Small independent suppliers in the main work out no more expensive than large DIY stores. You need a kitchen company to assist you.
