Which material should be used for low maintenance

    Iron and steel both rust, unless you are referring to stainless steel. Aluminum is also rust proof.

    Iron is solid. Will last more than a lifetime with maintenance. Steel fencing is thin wall hollow tubing. Aluminum is not recommended in some areas (salt air will rot it faster than rusting steel). Hot dip galvanizing and powder coating combined make for a low maintenance fence...but with commensurate costs.

    there is no real difference between the term iron and steel. If you want low maintenance then make it out of galvanized steel.
