Wallpaper for my bright south facing room

Our living room has two picture windows is south facing with lots of warm sunshine, we have a red leather suite what colours would anyone suggest please? Moya

Can you please add some pictures? Possibly you could use a more textured wallpaper. Some colors are a lot more weather resistant than others, depending on their chemistry. Dyes and fluorescent are a definite no go, fade too fast. Look for higher quality wallpapers, screen printed ones that usually have higher light fastness.

I love Josette wallpaper. I used it on my chimney breast in my old bedroom. Loved it so much, another shade went up under the dado up the stairs and in the hall in my house too. We then moved and we have it now in our new bedroom in yet another shade! I put the paper up in my old bedroom. It’s tricky but not the worst paper I have ever hung.

It looks like you like brown and it does contrast with the floor which is good (yin/yang). Adding a tall halogen lamp in the corner between the wall and the sofa would help you to read and help your eyes when you are watching the TV. The room would also welcome a lush plant in the South west where it can thrive or a bouquet of silk flowers in pink and white . A coffee table, preferably oval or a puff in the middle of the carpet will help conversations flowing. Avoid putting everything against the walls as your energy runs out of the window. As it is the south, you can add candles, perhaps scented ones too. The picture on the wall is too small in proportion to the size of the room. A red sunset or sunrise, a field of flowers, an image of trees, would give the room a happy lift. Browns can be complimented in the south with reds, orange, greens. White or cream walls would be better than grey. Too much of the same color in a room creates a dull effect and a boring life. So just add accessories in the colors that appeals to you. I would not recommend blues but yellows, oranges, or greens. Just a touch here and there, a throw, two cushions, a red lampshade. Perhaps some floral curtains rather the stripes that are too symmetric and promotes arguments. Add a pair in the Southwest for love. Have fun.

Hi. Is this a new house? Just wondering if you’d thought about cutting back some of the trees if possible? You might also be able to add something reflective in the garden ie water feature, mirror, light stone (can’t work out if you have decking down). I can’t say for sure but I’m not sure the colour of the wood makes any difference to the amount of light it bounces. I’ve got a walnut floor which bounces loads of light, I also inherited a really dark granite worktop in an east facing room but because it has a glossy finish it doesn’t darken the room at all. I’d get some floor samples in the room and see how reflective they are. Personally I might also choose the paint last (and after the floor is fitted) as there are thousands of paint colours and it’s relatively cheap compared to furniture. You could also consider adding a really large mirror on the long left hand wall. Also look at other reflective surfaces maybe a glass and brass coffee table, metal and glass for lighting etc. Are the curtains new?
