Definitely agree with that AJ...

In my room I have my bed at an angle between my built in wardrobe door and the window coming out towards the entrance door. I have made it a feature as I have patterned Matthew Williamson bedding in an mainly white/ scandi style room so it brightens up the whole room and I am considering making a wall mural of Kensington Palace and some roses in the front of it.

It is a hard room to use as it has 2 doorways, one in the middle of the longest wall and one at the side of a shorter wall, a massive window on the opposite one... you can see my problem.

I am not very good at keeping my room constantly the same - it generally gets rearranged every 2 weeks but I have kept it like this for about a couple of months so must be working :)

I will try and show you some pics when it is finished - i'll post it on the design dilemmas!

Well like dealing with smaller budgets which can be a challenge... there's skill in working with difficult spaces and so it sounds like you have done the best possible job and worked to compliment the space you have. I understand as I too like to try new things.. Your space will continue to evolve until you're happy with it and so from the sounds of things, you have found something that works.. The Control Position seems to be winning at the moment but, I thought that having your feet facing the door was a 'no no' in feng shui. Is that right? I move house this weekend and am struggling to find the right position for the bed so advice very welcome please.

WHile Feng Shui is a great tool for planning position and orientation of furniture pieces, it also has methods to counteract any placement that isn't seen as optimal, so it shouldn't be the end of the story, but rather the beginning. Therefore it is best to follow the guidelines of the space itself and the client's wishes. A bedroom should fulfil certain criteria, evoking feelings of safety, luxury: wrapping you in an envelope of comfort. A bedroom should make it easy to go to sleep, but just as easy to wake in the morning and feel like you want to get up and start the day. Any rule that can be used to say where something should be placed can become something that ignores how you feel in a space. Our advice, is before placing any other furniture in the room, try the bed in a few different positions, sleep in the bed in those positions and see which feels best. DON'T be afraid to break the rules

I want to be able to reach the curtains and see out of the window without getting out of bed. After moving everything round the room several times found there was only one way everything would fit. And I do like facing my beautiful green wardrobes. (They were white for 29 years, then I painted them.)

You could always use a motorised track to open your curtains....x

Control cave near the window is the best =) I like when a bed is placed near the window to look at the night sky and to breath the fresh air. I like when I see the doors - otherwise I become anxious. And I like something to divide the bed from the other room and hold some books to read(bedtime reading is the best! =) )

honeymummy, to counteract the "feet facing the door" issue, paint your door in high gloss or add mirrors to it to stop this outward flow x

Our bed is under the window which is eight feet wide. Its wonderful on a summer night, the cooling breeze. In the winter I always have my window open a little even on the coldest nights.

I would have gone for a vertical position bed, ie. a wall bed. For such a small room, it seems like such a waste of a room, having the whole space taken up by bed 24hours a day. Better to make the room useable throught out the day & night too.

European houses don't appear to be designed on Feng shui guidelines therefore must be quite difficult to place items in such spaces unless one is lucky to accidentally have spaces that coincide with Feng Shui principles. Guess houses need to be designed with these principles in construction and then interior placement naturally follows through from concept to finish.

To have door and windows under observation helps to feel safe and calm in the bedroom.

I instinctively want my bed nearer to the windows so I can keep cool, otherwise I can't sleep at all!

I didn't realise it, but I went with the "control" position. I like being able to enjoy the view whilst in bed!

Mine is in the only place possible to put a bed so that it does not obstruct doors or windows. The room has three doors and three windows, so not a lot of wall space. The wall it is against has one door the wall to the right two doors, the wall to the left two windows and the wall opposite has a large window. No wardrobes as there is no wall space left.

Our customers like all of these styles it depends on their personal preference

Have tried all the bed placement styles and they all work very well especially with a single bed in a room size 14" by 12".

I haven't seen the cave placement in years, so it may not be a trendy position.

Bed with headboard against the wall facing the window so that I can look straight out without turning to the side. Could have put it with the window on my left but it is only a small room.
