can I prune a quercus robur (english oak) without killing it

We have a large oak which needs to be pruned or removed

    You can absolutely prune it. Begin by filling out all deadwood and then work select suckers and onto crossing branches and prune for structure. Be sure not to take too much and 'lion tail' your branches.
