Update & advice re chairs!

Hi there,

I posted a while back asking for advice on style of dining table in kitchen (will also add before pics). I ended up having a kitchen nook built (thank you to those on here who gave me the idea) which I love. I've also introduced a slightly eccentric chandelier which I'm guessing might not to be everybody's taste but we like it and feel it adds a bit of fun and colour. Now struggling a decision on chairs but am thinking something bright, perhaps yellow, or will this be too much?

Also planning some cushions and artwork. Poss bright art on one wall and photo gallery on the other. So words of wisdom on these elements also much appreciated!

hi Carolina, I really appreciate you taking the time to help me and love your ideas. I should have added more detail but you managed to visualize the layout quite closely. Actually, no door in dining area , only access thru sitting room. Love the area rug and have Macys one which will work perfectly - might pull a greyish -blue color from rug for walls maybe similar to the example you provided. Also have two mid-century style floor lamps which I can use. I really like the idea of a mural as the Wow - only concern is that radiator is on that wall. Do you think I could work around that somehow? Shelving will work perfectly - I was thinking something from Ikea or JLewis. Agree that blind is better and like curtains on patio door side. I am really hooked on the mural suggestion . Thanks and I will post a updated photo to show you the final result when we get everything done -hopefully by Dec. -especially now that I have something to show 'the main man'. Hi Tegan, I would ask for a breakdown in material and labour. That way you get a clearer picture. I would expect something like this to cost in the region of £250-£400 (depending on where you live) for the recovering, with fabric in addition, You’re looking at 6-7m of fabric per chair so if you know the cost you can then decide if you really love the fabric you’ve chosen or want to consider an alternative (cheaper). Many upholsterers will let you supply your own fabric. Finally check to see if the price is for “recovering” only or includes any potential remedial work (replacement of foam/wadding/springs/straps/repair of framework , etc). Hope this helps

Sanitary ware. I'm having a crisis of decision making. I bought a new sink and vanity from IKEA: https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/washstands-taps/wash-stands/fullen-t%C3%A4lleviken-wash-basin-cabinet-white-spr-39891444/ However, it's occurred to me since that it'll take up too much of the room/floorspace, especially as the sink faces you as you walk in. I've been looking at other designs, and the wall-hung sink with a nicer-looking chrome waste could be a much better option. Added to this, if I'm tiling the floor, I'll probably need to buy a new loo, and IKEA doesn't do matching loos. Therefore...where can I buy a basic loo/basin package? What's the difference between a 'toilet and basin' and a 'cloakroom suite'? Should I go for one or two tap holes? Am I wasting my money? Should I just update the taps on the existing sink and tile-box in the waste?

I don't think yellow would be to much at all, but I would try a more mustard yellow to flow with the colour of your kitchen units. Maybe try a Dorothy-esque blue too? Wooden chairs would like nice, eg the style of Ercol stacking chair. Habitat have good chairs eg. Jerry, Talia, Sophie, Hester, Vince, would all look nice.

I have that exact table style as my bedside table - mine is vintage, and it's great! I think the décor at a restaurant in Dorset called Brassica is amazing for unexpected colour, maybe check their website www.brassicarestaurant.co.uk for inspiration.

Have you considered the Panton chair, they are available in a variety of colours and the repro ones are quite reasonably priced,so why stick to one colour; or possibly get some standard wooden chairs and paint them adding bright fabrics for cushion pads. (Much easier to change if you get fed up with them)
