I would just stick with the colours you have and go with taupe and black as per image from decoist. If you struggle with light do also thinking about adding the White bedding etc. if you want something warmer than go with different shades of taupe for accessories instead. Which way does the room face? Do you have existing furniture or are you buying new? If you wanted you could add a colour to this but personally like the taupe and black as they are.

Hi. Yes, I would paint the wardrobes and it really depends on the colour of the other walls. If you paint them the same colour as the wall they are on then they will appear to be apart of the wall and will be far less imposing. The mix match of woods doesn't help so I would look at changing this to have one wood and the painted if possible. I would add height to the room to help with the look, mirror the length in the wardrobes opposite drawing your eye up the space, with taller more imposing bedside lamps.

The bed looks very comfy and a good colour. Have you thought about the proportions of the colour you are using though? The kind of think I am talking about is 60%, 30%, 10% (or threabouts) where you layer the colours in those proportions. Broadly it's walls, ceiling and floor, then soft furnishings then accessories. At the moment you have the walls as the largest colour of yellow. Is this what you really want? Or could the walls go a bit more neutral with the blue on bed and curtains and yellow picked out in the lovely cushions shown above?
