do happen to have record of the dimensions for that beautiful built in cabinet? only need the width of available. my space is 16' and am looking to do the same thing.

Hello - That run of cabinets is ~12 feet wide.

I think something like in the below picture would look great. The dining set here would look great too. Add a white or cream large shaggy rug for warmth and brightness in front of the sofa. Darlings Maltino White Rug Add dark purple floor length curtains in a translucent fabric, a glass or mirror pr acrylic coffee table and a large mirror on the wall behind the sofa. Maybe replace the sofa with a model such as our Delamere in a light purple velvet or any light colour fabric, we have 100's to choose from. Darlings Delamere Sofa Range Keep the TV where it is and clear the clutter in the window end of the room. Perhaps add a large potted plant or small occasional chair in the corner where the display cabinet is. and a large basket in the corner in front of the radiator for the kids toys and bits and pieces.

Hi all, thought I would give an update on the room. I decided to paint in neutral and take some time to allow the extension to complete before attempting this room. We freshened it up with some white paint and I’m now ready to tackle it!! I have sold and cleared much of my clutter after reading the magic art of tidying. The book should really come with a warning. I have literally ransacked our home! We have ordered a new sofa. We went with the French connection zinc. A 3 seater in light grey with dark cushion combo with a grey leather cuddler. We have a decorator pencilled in for 3 weeks time. I’m loving the teal blue shades for an accent wall to separate the living area from the play end. I like teal tension by Dulux and F&b stiffney blue or Hague. I’ll post some samples tomorrow. I’m not sure which one or two walls to paint. Either just the fireplace wall or the long wall facing window (or both). Undecided on colour for other walls too either little greene French grey in pale or elephants breath. I think I would like the darker wall to be one that the tv sits against. Where would you put tv? I would like to change the stand for a lower more minimalistic one. Love all of the mid century styles. The other side of the room will be for the girls as our dining area has moved to the extension room. Any idea much appreciated. Here is a current pic. The toys and armchair will go to other end of room.

Of course you had to guess the size of the bay window, so the best advice is to measure, measure and measure again when you see furniture you like. Make sure it fits in the space by using that cardboard boxes/paper/tape method. I chose to put in a cabinet that goes along the entire wall, because it makes the room look wider. (Check IKEA or other furniture brands that do ‘modular’ furniture. A patterned rug can trick the eye too. It kind of distracts your mind from the boundaries because your eyes follow the pattern. Doesn’t have to be a zigzag. Can be anything. And notice that the chair has very sleek lines, no arm rests even. Looks lighter. Light coloured furniture, at least for the larger pieces, also helps to make the space seem larger.
