Help needed to finish our living room
Comments (25)I think the three prints above the sofa are too symmetrical and the black rectangular frames a little on the masculine side. You could have a number of prints of different sizes with different frames instead. Perhaps one large one with a couple medium and small or something. I'm struggling to find a photograph of what I mean online but if you do an image search for 'prints above sofa' you might find something of the kind. That with some softer, warmer colours could work....See MoreNeed help for my living room
Comments (20)I have a two very similar rooms to this. In the living room I painted the coving, windows, door and skirts in Railings by farrow and ball (it's a very dark blue black). It looks bloody fabulous and because of the height and scale of the room it can really carry it off and looks very grand. I then wallpapered the entire room in the scion range by harlequin. Be bold, rooms like this can really take it. The bedroom which is identical I painted completely in RAilings (walls, coving, skirts, doors etc) and it looks awesome and every single person that sees it loves it although 99% of people wouldn't be brave enough to do it as it's very dark. Google abigail AHern as she loves using dark paint throughout her interiors and it really works, esp if you have a period property . I personally stay away from feature walls as I think they've had their day and look a bit 'changing rooms' circa 2002.... I've also put white wooden Venetian blinds (got them made to measure from ebay as were a lot cheaper) which also lifts both rooms. I also put a wood burner in the fireplace in the living room and have crucial trading dark grey carpets throughout. Good luck!...See MoreHelp, need help updating my rented living room!
Comments (4)Hi Claire, You have a lovely space to work with and it’s great to hear that you’re up for doing a bit of DIY! In regards to the coffee table, go for it! It’s a lovely design and will complement the characteristics of the room perfectly. I’d dress the table with a gorgeous green plant - not only will this add vibrant colour, but also adds life to your space and is guaranteed to make you smile. As suggested by Minnie, a floor standing plant situated underneath your fitted wall shelves will add a feature to this corner of your room. If you fancy doing a little bit of painting, why not head to your nearest charity shop and find a sweet side table to place to the left of your sofa or either side of your armchair? Choose your favourite Dulux paint colour (in a Satinwood finish) and paint your table to add a personalised touch to your space! This will create such a lovely statement as you enter the room, especially if you choose a beautiful blue to create that coastal look. Adding a side lamp to the side table will add height and a lovely ambiance to your room, especially in the evenings when you’re snuggled up watching TV. To give your IKEA unit a fresh look, dress it with these lovely storage boxes which will work so perfectly with the scheme you want to achieve: http://goo.gl/zrKf2u Finally, if your budget stretches, take a look at these lovely cushions from Dunelm. The prices are amazing and I think they will finish the look so well. And we’d love to see your finished room once it’s complete, so please do share some pics! Comments (2)Hi Shaun, completely agree with Isidora, bespoke storage is always a good practical option and can transform a room. If you do go down that route then please do look at our facebook page for ideas. We make fitted made to measure alcove furniture that comes in a flat pack format. The cabinets are bespoke but more affordable as you (or your carpenter !) look after the fitting and painting. www.diyalcovecabinets.co.uk. All the best Samantha...See MoreCraig Andresen
