First Floor Extension and Appeal
Comments (4)When we applied for our first floor extension over our garage / family room, our architect was very clear that the extension would need to be "subservient" to the main house. He achieved this by stepping the front back slightly, only by a couple of bricks, and consequently the roofline is slightly lower than the original part of the house. However, the side wall was not stepped in. So, it might be worth seeing if you could maybe push back the front of the first floor, whilst keeping the side wall as wide as the ground floor, and reapply....See MoreGood layout for First Floor
Comments (4)Hi - without seeing a ground ( or further lower ) floor plan - its tricky to work out which are supporting walls - and assuming the current ensuite to the left side bedroom has proper soil pipe and not just a saniflow type system - something like this may even out the bedrooms a little - it sticks to your brief of one slightly larger bathroom and one ensuite ... so this is just a concept to mull over ... (Green boxes are wardrobe space !) [marketing note : this is an example of our sketch consult service - normally chargeable at £35per hour -but happily given FOC to this Houzzer in this instance. Comments (5)Congratulations on your new house - exciting times, and you’re also v lucky to be getting such a lovely kitchen! As others have said - most things would looks great. Personally, I don’t like the full coordinated look - and for things like kettles and toasters, I would stick to stainless steel or chrome, because then it can’t go out of fashion! I also don’t like to have loads out on the side - so if you’ve got room for your tea and coffee in a cupboard, I’d keep it there! That also saves money because the containers that they came in can go straight in the cupboard - no need to decant into different ones. If you need to have them on the side, I recommend a trip to somewhere like TK Maxx where there’s lots of styles - see which ones you are drawn to - if you really like them, then fashion becomes irrelevant and you’re likely to get good use out of them....See MoreFirst time buyer - please help :)
Comments (9)Don’t rush into anything. Take your time. Deal with any pressing problems such as plumbing issues, door locks etc and live in it as it is for the next six months or so. Longer if you can manage it. As each day goes by you will become familiar with the space and how you best feel comfortable living in it. You will discover where you like to sit of an evening, how easy or hard is it to make a cup of tea, how you instinctively keep reaching for a light switch that isn’t there. It’s the small changes that often make a big difference to creating a comfortable and functional home. Gradually ideas will begin to take shape but will just as easily slip your mind so make notes. Have a notebook for each room and write down the good, the bad and the ugly. Don’t over stretch yourself work out what you can practicably do within your budget. Some changes cost very little but add value, some changes cost a lot and add diddly squat! Spend the time to start thinking about colours and styles that you like and bring them together on a mood board or scrap book whichever you find easiest. You will likely change your mind a million times before it all falls into place but it will all be worth it in the end....See MoreCarolina
