Panic! Are these kitchen colours going to look awful??
Comments (30)I've just seen this thread again, my last comment was in January...but here goes although you may have finished your new kitchen by now. I'm just in the throes of doing mine. Wooden floor is a lovely choice for a cold climate but I wouldn't do wooden worktops also, too matchy matchy and think of all that work maintaining them. Here in Spain marble is definitely a thing of the past as it is not tough enough, and granite has been taken over by Silestone, although the new thing is Neolith/Dekton which is very thin but super tough (bit pricey though). My advice is neutral, neutral, neutral for the stuff that costs the most money, adding colour with the cheap stuff, ie paint, blinds, etc. Bottom line: it's your kitchen so don't listen to any of us, choose what YOU like. Good luck!...See MoreDo I dare to go dark?
Comments (4)I wish more people were brave with colour. Here's how to do it well:- Paint the whole room even the chimney breast. Paint the ceiling off white or grey..... Sometimes a pure brilliant white is too much contrast. Make sure that the dark is used to frame lots of lighter parts- think pale curtains on a wide pole. Lots of pale pictures on the walls. Since you are drawn to the intimate look don't forget to light it well at night..... Avoid very white light, have lots of table lamps, an up lighter, lights in plants or under furniture and perhaps a few dimmers...See MoreDouble bathroom vanity unit needed. Comments (7)Just for inspiration, as I don't know your budget, how about something like this? http://www.plainenglishdesign.co.uk/arts-3 or these http://www.neptune.com/furniture/bathroom/washstands-taps/ I find most off-the-shelf vanities in the UK are either hideous and cheap-looking, or nice but cost a fortune. Fired Earth is another that's expensive but has good country styles. I would probably get a carpenter to make something bespoke with a marble top. I'm having my bathroom cupboards made in moisture resistant MDF, but I want to paint them so it doesn't matter that they're MDF....See Morecarrara marble s carrara marble yellow stain
Comments (10)We have a house in Spain with marble floors and have this issue in several rooms- we noticed the main areas after about 6 months but have had new areas emerge even 15 years later. We’ve had several specialists to look at it over the years and had explanation of oxidising, damp coming through, being laid on sand, sand walked on them, sea air, wrong cleaning materials ...We’ve had the floors specialist cleaned, ground and polished many times and it’s still there. I know some neighbours just replaced them with a less porous stone. Could you ask the marble supplier as I think you do need to avoid it pre installation not rely on being able to clean it afterwards....See Moreshelleyuk
