Enough space to create a utility room and separate shower room?
Comments (10)Assuming the plumbing can't go all the way into the porch (and runs along the left), I imagined this: Instead of opening up the complete kitchen-dining wall (probably loadbearing), enlarge the current doorway and have a 'window frame' installed to open things up. No separate utility in this though. And is the door on the side the only door to your garden? I've simply added one, though french doors in the dining would most likely add more value. And with some extra cash you could open up the dining-lounge wall too. And close off some of the hallway to gain storage space under+near the stairs....See MoreShower design error- is it too late ?
Comments (4)Niches are usually built into a second wall so it may well be too late but the window idea is good. You could put a basket on the windowsill and put all the toiletries in it....See MoreShower room and Utility room in this space
Comments (2)It would be helpful if you could provide a few pieces of information: what's the size of the room ? "Roughly interpolated" from the relative sizes of the stairwell, I assume around 3m x 2.5m ? Where is the (external) soil pipe ? The plan seems to imply that to the left of your "target room" is where the current shower room sits - so is the drainpipe right there ? How do the joists run in that room ? Parallel to the "window side wall", or parallel to the stairwell side ? (This may play a role for how to get drainpipes out) Also, do you wish to subdivide the space into two rooms ? A shower room without window for privacy, on the left side, and the utility room to the front where the window is ? From my point of view, it's challenging to split that room, because of access and possible door placement. It'd make a comparatively large bathroom if not split, with space for a washing machine cupboard unit along the stairwell wall or window side. You could fit an opaque window, or use shutters ?...See MoreToo small? Shower room 1.9 m x 1.2m
Comments (31)Hi Sarah, I think 1.9x1.2 is a small but not-too-small shower room! It looks like you have received lots of great advice already, especially the hidden cisterns within the stud wall to save space in the rooms. Its hard to tell if the floor plan shown is accurate or to scale, but it seems like there is a bit of extra space right of the front door. So I wondered if you could enlarge the main shower room to be big enough so you could have a bath with a shower above? This room could also have storage for general bathroom and cleaning supplies. Please let me know if this idea works for you? And I wish you all the best with your flat renovation project!! Phill...See MoreJames Tatlow
