It looks lovely, very elegant and calm. A console would work well (like the bar idea with a couple of lovely decanters and glasses) and if you wanted to add anything perhaps a table lamp where the photo is and maybe some taller creamy white flowers with green foliage for the coffee table (I go faux!). I like the layout but just wondering if the chairs would fit half angled in the alcoves?

Hi. I just meant try the chairs in the recesses either side of the chimney breast. I can see one is smaller so may or may not work! I've just seen your dining room too, looks very nice!

This room is gorgeous, very elegant and cosy at the same time. How about a console table behind the two armchairs with a lamp or two on it, if there is room? But really we are shifting about looking for ideas for an already perfect room!

You've done a really nice job, classy and understated, mixing the contemporary with the traditional, I love it. It's not a huge space but doesn't feel cluttered, although I would be slightly wary of putting more furniture in, unless it's light and reflective, ie mirrored or metallic. Well done anyway

Think it looks a bit tight, is there plenty room to get round to the back sofa and sit down without having to manouvre round other furniture?

Could the armchairs be pulled out a bit and angled a little, remove the small table from between them so you can get in that way? Might give you more space?

Thanks everyone for the positive comments, greatly appreciated! Its not the largest room but enough room to get around as is (maybe not as obvious in the pics). Adding a console might make it more congested as the dining room is right by. Anyway, I had to show off my xmas tree I just got from Homegoods :) I feel like it goes with the rest of the room.

Looks lovely. I love furniture centred around the fireplace not a TV. I would probably replace the artwork with a mirror the same size as the window in the other alcove to give symmetry and move the Christmas tree to the other alcove to avoid blocking any light from the window.

And agree with minne101 - if there's no TV in there you could put the chairs in the alcoves and have the sofa opposite the fireplace with the Christmas tree to the right of the sofa. It might make the space feel more open and not block any light from the big window.
