My new kitchen needs a new hob and I am lost as to which fuel to get
Comments (6)If you have a magnet, hold it to the Le Creuset pots. If it sticks to the pot, you can use it on an induction hob. I’ve recently switched from gas to induction. Induction is much quicker and you can let the burner switch off automatically after a set time. And it’s easy to clean. So far the advantages I’ve found. Disadvantages: can’t see the flame, so have to work out what the settings do. I’m taking a long time to get used to that, but then again, I’ve only ever cooked on gas before. Sometimes the pans make an annoying high pitched tone. I had to buy new pans, but my big iron stew pot (not Le Creuset) should work on it. Haven’t used it yet, but it is magnetic. For my other pans I went to IKEA and got a great set with heavy glass lids from there. Very happy with them. Had to say goodbye to one of my big iron frying pans, because the bottom was slightly warped and then it doesn’t work well either. All in all I’m happy with the induction hob. I love the speed. But I think I still prefer gas. Anyway... we have a downdraft in an island, so gas wasn’t an option. But you could do both perhaps? Two gas burners, two induction ones for example?...See MoreWhich kitchen appliances (gas hob, oven etc) - Neff, Bosch, Siemens?
Comments (4)Neff, Miele and Siemens are all good brands. Gaggenau are more industrial in appearance and have odd cabinetry sizes so be careful with their size specifications. They also stand proud of the cabinet so you don't get a flush appearance (if that is what you want to achieve). Most of our customers opt for Neff for ovens and hobs and sometimes Bosch for washing machines and dishwashers, but it is really down to personal choice and what your budget allows. On a personal note I have had Neff ovens for over twenty years, but recently mine stopped working. We replaced it temporarily with another brand but I can't get on with it - unreliable temperatures and cooking times etc etc. I would buy a Neff Slide and Hide every time!...See MorePosition of hob in new kitchen
Comments (10)I MUCH prefer MATH's plan, or even switching the hob on the back wall of your plan. I am not a fan of hobs on islands :( . Personally I wouldn't subject my friends to a film of grease and cooking smells wafting directly onto them as they are enjoying a drink the other side of the bar, even with a pop up hood things won't be much improved because of the noise level they bring, even the quieter ones are still noisy and annoying in such close proximity. Plus there's always a host of kitchen paraphernalia needed to have on hand as you cook, room needed to remove a pan, dish out etc., with a sink at least you can add a wooden board over the top to hide the mess in the sink and provide some extra surface. And let's be honest in reality the need for you to have your back to your guests for long as you cook something on the hob at the back should not be for long, most of us cook things in advance with only minimal cooking left to do once guests arrive....See Morekitcken layout dilemma (position of the hob and fridge)
Comments (7)Agree with Daniel with taking hot items out of an oven and having worktop space to put these down. I also agree with Golddust that the original designers layout is the best. If you do consider moving the gas hob under the window, speak to a gas safe engineer first, there are regulations regarding gas appliances and open windows....See Morejdawson2402
