Help with splash back, extractor fan and cooker advice..
Comments (3)Hi. More photos of the whole space would really help people to give proper suggestions, so give us some when you can. You have white, cream, grey, brown and black, from what you've told us and this pic. The grey could be the only jarring colour, but we need to see more. Well, at least I do before I suggest the backsplash tile colour and style and size! You can have stoves re-enamelled, but it could look great as is. Cleaning? Oven cleaner, elbow grease, washing up liquid, proper scourers - for the inside, that is. An extractor fan on a traditional stove with a sideways flue is going to be tough. Normally, you'd put this in a chimney breast or what looks like one. Anyway, post more pictures (and reassure us that you are going to move those sockets) and then I'm sure you'll get lots of great ideas coming your way....See MoreSplash back for cooker against a stone wall
Comments (7)Think you may end up spending a fortune looking for a large enough vintage enamel sign. You could always buy a large poster and get it framed instead to hang behind the aga? That way you can wipe the glass down easily. Here's a few I liked: http://www.allposters.co.uk/-sp/Tea-Sale-Posters_i13714999_.htm http://www.allposters.co.uk/-sp/Ruf-n-Redy-Lemon-Label-Upland-CA-Posters_i4124132_.htm http://www.allposters.co.uk/-sp/Pomona-California-The-Parrot-Brand-Citrus-Label-Posters_i4292532_.htm http://www.allposters.co.uk/-sp/California-Rising-Sun-Brand-Citrus-Label-Posters_i4292562_.htm Equally, you could just frame a large section of nice wall-paper if you'd prefer something a little more neutral....See MoreKitchen antique mirror splash back help
Comments (21)Saw an article on Apartment Therapy talking about mirrored splashbacks recently. Had some lovely photos featured, I personally preferred the options where the glass is raised up from the hob slightly. Could you maybe get a piece of the upstand cut to fill the gap? Also having it 'framed' by wall either side looks better to me than it spanning the whole space. I've mocked it up to extractor fan level and to ceiling level (I've guesstimated the tile scale but hope it gives you the idea). Personally I prefer the latter in this space as the proportions look better. http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/mirror-backsplash-ideas-that-arent-from-the-70s-or-80s-248551...See MoreKitchen splash-back tiling dilemma
Comments (4)I agree with the builder, that work is shoddy and unprofessional and I would not be happy looking at that in my kitchen. It looks like a DIYer has completed it. In fact I call it a HUTH house! When I watch Homes Under the Hammer, often people buy a house and either do the work themselves or get their mates to refurbish and lots of them end up looking poorly finished for the low end rental market. Any chance that you could ask him to remedy the work though unlikely as you’ve already paid for it. Really sorry that this work was completed in this poor way....See MoreA Z
