Kitchen island colour

I'm looking to change the colour of the island and don't want to paint it myself. Not sure I could do it to a high enough standard. Anyone have any recommendations as to how to tackle this?

As long as your current finish/paintwork is well stuck to the kitchen materials a gentle sand down will give it enough key to take on new paint. 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of top coat will be ideal. www.willowtreeinteriors.com sell Mylands paint which we have one of the most durable paints for kitchens and furniture. apply with a brush and sponge roller for best results. Hi NYC, I have seen this problem before. Is the floor on joists or is it a solid concrete floor? If it's on joists you may have a real problem as it sounds as if the joists are bouncing under the weight. This is a very large island therefore very heavy. If the island is on joists and these are moving you need to underpin the floor by adding steel underneath or building up brick piers under the joists to stop the flexing. I would suggest you address this urgently. I would advise you to have a structural engineer look at it. If it's on concrete this shouldn't be such an issue (Hope you're on concrete) Assuming concrete there should not be any movement on the floor so the issue is with the flooring material. Check to see if it has been laid tight to the walls if so the flooring material will expand with any changes in temperature or moisture absorbed from the concrete. The floor should be laid with a gap between it and the wall then the skirting boards fitted over the top to cover the expansion gap. This way the floor can expand and contract without creaking or buckling. Hope that helps, Martin www.ange-martin.com

I can depend on the aspect of the room. Also, the tiles will have their own 'colour' so depending on what that is, the paint needs to work with it. If you go to an art shop like Hobbycraft and buy several large sheets of stiff card then paint the samples on very carefully at least two coats, this will be better than splodges on the wall.

Hi I was looking some help and guidance as my head is melted with all the decisions that come with building a house. I'm trying to create a timesless modern kitchen and I've decided to go ammonite cabinets and on my island I have a warm white grey quartz with a wooden breakfast bar. I dont know what colour to put on my walls. I have tried strong white farrow and ball which I like, cornforth white and purbeck stone which I think might be too dark. I have attached a few photos. The last one is the computer generated image. I have light colour tile on my floors too. I have tried railings on the wall that is featuring the ovens. (the ovens will also be cased in the same wood as on the island) but it seems too black. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Tara x

love that green, but I wouldn't do the light grey cabinets elsewhere as they might be a bit dirty/drab looking next to this colour. I'd do the other cabinets a nice off-white (not cream or ivory, just a warm chalky white). I suspect you'll go off the grey cabinets before you go off the green as grey is nearing the end of it's trend cycle whereas green is very on-trend and will continue to be for a while. for the same reason, I'd also re-consider a grey floor. and also, greys have different undertones (blue, green and purple) so if you are using multiple greys in a room you need to make sure they have the same undertone otherwise it will just look 'off' and you won't like it (but might not know why you don't like it).
