Living room decoration decisions
Comments (14)My pleasure. I think avoiding wallpaper is a top idea. Having 50 samples and not liking any is a clue! It is such a huge room and wallpaper could look incredibly busy and isn't really the modern look you say you want. Downpipe is great, but I would then have a lighter grey on the top half of the walls and then a chalky white on the ceiling. The cornicing that isn't really cornicing and the other details that are above the doors could then be the same as the top half of the wall or the ceiling - I don't think they should be the same as the bottom half of the walls because, if you look at it now, it chops up the room too much - but that might just be in the photos. You can add pattern in soft furnishings and those giant curtains you are going to have to buy at some point! Here's a picture of what I did in our last house when I decided to embrace the dark and make it cosy. It is a MUCH smaller room than yours, but I used Pigeon and then a Downpipe-ish colour....See MoreNorth facing dining room - what colour?
Comments (20)@ensignaccesories no, I meant Dulux Natural Taupe, it's available on different tones. I've seen the taupe you mentioned, but I found it too dark. I've had a change of hearts about the wallpaper after I was told that that one is actually a very old design and Laura Ashley no longer stocks it. Also talking to the lady at LA I realised that trying to force my idea of grey/beige is probably not the best for this particular room, but what I need is something more cheerful and bright, like the green colour I already have in my living room (accessories) . So with this in mind, I headed to John Lewis and took a few samples of green wallpaper. When I stuck them onto the wall next to one I had originally liked, I could see a big difference in the mood of the whole room, it didn't feel as gloomy as with the other grey colours. So, what do you think? Using something like these examples on the front wall? i still need to find what colour to pain the other walls, though. Thanks!...See MoreI need help with dining and living room wall colour
Comments (6)Here are the paint colours in that picture. How dark a colour is does depend on the light. For example I painted my hall, stairs and landing in Pigeon by F&B but because the area has little light it has come out really dark! A lighter green is Mizzle or Cromarty. I have Cromarty in my living room (2nd pic)....See MorePaint colour inspiration for living and dining room
