Help me restore my cupboard ...ideas on colours..?

My cupboard that is at the top of my stairs needs a new lick of paint. It's currently painted a mustard chalky yellow with chalk grey on top. My stairs have cream carpet with a off white walls with a slate grey bannister. I'm looking for a bit if colour so it stands out and looks unique.

Any ideas would be helpful as I just keep back to black & grey colours

How about Farrow and Ball Lime white outside

and doors in Stiffkey Blue

I'd go for all over dark pewter grey also. With a lovely lighter grey on top:- vase

You could also consider a wall paper behind the etched front panels in a pale silver grey for a good effect
Just one tip from the wife as she used to restore furniture and do specialist paint finishes. Dont use Chalk paint, forget the hype, it doesn't have a nice finish, isn't washable and isn't durable. For a nice low sheen use Satinwood. Luckily as Chalk paint is not the best, a lot of it will wash off, you can then leave to dry and sand lightly. Roller the panels for best effect, don't load the roller to much, less is more, more coats, otherwise the paint will drip in to the little cut outs.

I was a die hard F&B fan - painted numerous houses solely in F&B for the finish etc. HOWEVER due to budget constraints, a current offer at Homebase on Dulux paint (inc. mix) , and the fact i'm painting an entire 3 storey house i experimented with colour matching F&B colours - specifically Cornforth White, Purebeck Stone, Ammonite and Pink Ground. Opting for the Endurance Matt and Flat Matt finishes by Dulux i was pleasantly surprised by the results. The colour match was pretty much spot on - i would caveat that the Dulux colour match won't produce matching finishes for all colours. For example Dulux couldn't match a flat eggshell in the Cornforth White so we bought Estate Eggshell from F&B and it goes perfectly well with the walls in the matched Dulux Endurance Matt. In the master bedroom we choose to use F&B Cornforth White and Pink Ground and estate emulsion and I felt it was a thinner paint than the Dulux! The added benefit of the Dulux colour match is that they can provide a number of different more durable finishes. If you want colour inspiration have a look at Paint & paper Library too.

Hi Yolanda - I'd change the stools, table and chairs, and swap the pendants for something in coloured glass or (personally) metallic, and change the cabinet handles from steel to brass/gold. Instant lift. Splashback-wise, try distressed mirror (suitably tempered and toughened) as it has loads of personality, bounces light around and is easy to clean. Then play with wall colour. Warm accents will stop the wood door from jarring so much (or paint it, if you can convince your husband). You have a lovely kitchen - will take very little to get it where you want!

Hi Sarah, If you are open to it, I suggest painting the doors a soft pink. As you say the worktop and flooring doesn't really need changing and whilst you can re-paint the doors a fresh lick of paint it hasn't really answered your dilemma. If you want to add a bit of warmth, soften the black and cover up marks I'd look into a soft pink something like Calamine or Pink Ground both Farrow & Ball would look lovely. Adding pink will give it a modern edge and I think would work really well against all the black. Sorry this was the best image I could find with black worktops and pink units: I would also change the colour of the walls to a softer creamy pink just so it feels more balanced. Floor, doors, worktop, tiles, walls would be the order for me. Try to pick it all together in one go. And look at the colours in the actual space. Light affects colours. What looks grey in the showroom, might look blue in your room, for example. Floors first, because you either already have a floor or the newly bought floor needs to flow from one room to another. Another tip: make a moodboard. Either online (you can use your ideabooks here on Houzz to create a moodboard for your kitchen, with photos of kitchens, colours and other things that you like), or cut ideas from magazines and put them all together. You'll get a good idea of the look you'd like to create and it can also help you to keep focussed when making choices.

For a nice bold colour how about turquoise. Should complement your existing colours.
